Holzer Health System would like to welcome Rodney Stout, MD, MMM, CPE as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective Jan. 1, 2024, replacing Dr. Michael Canady, who retired at the end of 2023.

Dr. Stout joined Holzer as an Endocrinologist in 1995. He has served in a variety of leadership roles within the system, including Holzer Clinic Board of Directors, Holzer Health System Board of Directors, Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Clinical Research.

When asked about his outlook for Holzer, Dr. Stout shared, “Continuing to provide both excellent care and employment opportunities to the residents of Southeast Ohio and Western West Virginia is first and foremost. Holzer has made great strides over the past several years under Dr. Canady’s leadership in quality and service, picking up many accolades in the process. I plan to build on these successes while embracing the many challenges we face in healthcare — from continued staffing shortages to implementing new technologies, such as artificial intelligence.”

“I have spent my entire medical career at Holzer,” continued Dr. Stout. “The people — employees, patients, and community members — have been so kind and generous to me and my family over the years. I am forever grateful.”

Dr. Stout completed his medical education at The University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The University of Missouri. He completed a master’s in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a Certified Physician Executive from the American Association for Physician Leadership.

He and his wife, Marlene, reside in Gallipolis. They have two sons, John and Adam, both graduates of Gallia Academy High School.
