District 9 of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, encompassing Athens, Gallia, Meigs, Jackson, Vinton, Lawrence, Ross, Scioto and Pike Counties, recently held their 2024 Awards Banquet at Happenings Bistro of Wellston in mid-March – the fourth year that the Bistro has hosted the event.

Awards were given to troopers, dispatchers, support staff, retirees and families that were recognized for their exceptional performance of duty in 2024. Wishing to show his support of local law enforcement along with the city, Wellston Mayor Anthony Brenner picked up the check for the entire organization’s meals to show the area’s gratitude for its incomparable troopers. Unfortunately, by law, the Patrol is unable to accept such gratuities, so the decision was made to instead donate the balance of this money toward one of the many local charities.

District 9 selected the Wellston OHillCo Society as the recipient and donated $600 toward raising money for the beloved Christmas light display presented annually by the City of Wellston.

Plummer wished to thank Anthony Brenner and Brenner Restoration for the initial gratuity to the Patrol’s Award Banquet, through which the Patrol was able to donate toward the OHillCo Society’s light display.

“We appreciate the Highway Patrol,” said Brenner. “They’re always in town, they’re always helping out, and anytime we can back them up, we need to. They’re a big part of our community, and we value their partnership.”

District 9 has its headquarters in Jackson, and Cvetan also highlighted the importance of this relationship. “We rely on the officers of the community to back us up,” said Cvetan. “They’re always there to help us, as well. People do it right here – law enforcement cooperates, we collaborate well together, and it ultimately benefits the community.”

Dupree also thanked the Patrol for their kind donation. “We appreciate the support,” said Dupree. “It’s nice to see people come together to do something nice for the community, and adding outside sources like the State Patrol, seeing them invest in it, it’s truly wonderful. We thank everyone, and we’ll see you in December!”
