SNAP benefits being restored to recipients this weekFree Access

There is good news this week for the many Jackson County and Vinton County residents who qualify for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP benefits. SNAP benefits were suspended earlier this month due to the shutdown of the federal government. That situation was resolved earlier this week when Congress voted to end the shutdown.

According to the Jackson County Department of Job and Family Services, over the weekend the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services conducted successful system testing that will allow the agency to begin issuing the outstanding balance of November SNAP benefits.

As of this past Monday, approximately 90,000 recipients will begin to receive benefits. Additional processing will continue over the next two days and 95 percent of all cases are likely to have benefits by this Wednesday. The remaining five percent of cases will require a bit more review, but benefits are expected to be issued by the end of this week.

SNAP recipients were asked to be patient as this issuance process is performed. Recipients are asked to check their accounts periodically for updates.
