Second Public Information meeting set for Dec. 2 on proposed solar-power generation fieldFree Access

The Texas-based company which proposes to locate a solar panel energy generation field in southern Vinton County will conduct a second Public Information meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Vinton County High School.

Recurrent Energy Co. is inviting the public to attend its Open House-style event from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the high school, which is located at 63910 U.S. Highway 50 on the west side of McArthur. The event follows an initial Public Information meeting which was held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, also at the high school.

Recurrent Energy plans to place its solar-power generation field on a 1,400-acre tract of reclaimed land west of Hamden at the former Sands Hill Coal Co. property, which is now owned by Cheyenne Resources. Recurrent Energy plans to lease the property for 40 years and to create 180 megawatts of alternating current that will be placed on the electric grid. The company has named its project Hamden Energy.

The Hamden Energy Team, along with third-party experts, will be available at the Public Information meeting to answer questions. The Vinton County Commissioners, Vinton County Auditor Cindy Waugh and Vinton County Local School District Treasurer Erica Zinn were among the local officials who attended the previous meeting.

The process involves negotiating a tax agreement with the county and the project must come before the Ohio Power Siting Board for review and approval.

The early tax-revenue projections are $1.2 million annually in taxes for local governmental entities with the Vinton County Local Schools receiving more than half of that amount.
