RICK BLAINE DUNNAVANT
Rick Blaine Dunnavant, age 73, of Haughton, LA, formerly of Oak Hill, OH passed away on Friday, August 8, 2025.
Rick served his country with honor in the U.S. Navy during his early years. Afterward, he built a remarkable 40‑year career as a crane and heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers. Along the way, he earned numerous honors as a longtime competitor and award‑winner in the American Pool Players Association.
Rick’s heart was as big as his zest for life. He delighted in cooking for friends and family, guarding his secret recipes for wings, ribs, and pretzels like prized treasures. In his youth, he played guitar in a band called The Saints, and his love for music stayed with him always. He also cherished hot rods, the thrill of driving fast, and racing motorcycles. Above all, he was known as a hard worker, honest and loyal – a friend you could rely on. Rick’s wisdom, clarity, and compassionate readiness to listen made him someone everyone turned to.
In retirement, Rick found joy in simple pleasures: watching old westerns, tending his land on his trusty John Deere, caring for his six beloved cats, and cheering on the New Orleans Saints with infectious enthusiasm.
Rick held many titles, but “Dad” was his favorite. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, fellow musicians, pool buddies, co‑workers, and all who were touched by his warmth.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Ted and Wanda Dunnavant. Rick is survived by daughter, Michelle Luquet and husband, Jeff; son, Derrick Dunnavant and wife, Shelly; stepson, Randy Fox; stepdaughter, Marilyn Gentry; grandsons: Phillip, Steven, Dylan, Jake, Tyler and Randy; granddaughters: Lacy and Morgan; sister, Gayle Dunnavant; and nieces: Stacey, Christina and Kendra.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 24, 2025, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., located in Haughton, LA. Donations may be made directly to the family for the care of Rick’s beloved cats.
