As per the Ohio Department of Transportation District 9’s Planning Department, the district’s Environmental Office is seeking public input for a project to replace a bridge on State Route 139 in Jackson County.

It is proposed to replace the bridge on State Route 139 at the 3.17-mile mark in Jackson County. The project is located in a rural area of Hamilton Township between Sam-Gilliland Road and Maybee-Karn Road. The existing structure is a single-span concrete slab with reinforced concrete substructure, built in 1954.

The project will require approximately 0.176 acres of permanent right-of-way. The permanent right-of-way is located along the stream channel, pasture field and residential lawn. No homes or businesses will be removed by the project. The roadway will be closed for the duration of the project, with the state detour being State Route 139 to State Route 279 to State Route 93 to State Route 32 to State Route 139. The state detour is approximately 25.5 miles long.

The funding for the project was made possible through 80-percent federal and 20-percent state funding. The environmental commitment date was Oct. 28, and the project is currently expected to be awarded on Oct. 1, 2023.

Written comments should be submitted by Friday, Dec. 23 or by the deadline date that is posted on the website to: Brandon Beck, ODOT District 9 Environmental Supervisor, 650 Eastern Ave., Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 or to [email protected].
