The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has released information regarding an incident last October in which two citizens provided timely and important assistance to an OSHP trooper who was dealing with an unruly suspect on a county road near Jackson. OSHP recently personally honored both persons, presenting them with certificates of appreciation.
On Oct. 31, 2025, at approximately 5:37 p.m., Trooper Jeremy Farmer of the Ohio State Highway Patrol observed a pedestrian standing in the middle of County Road 64 (Mt. Zion Road) in Jackson County.
The trooper stopped to help and quickly realized the individual was under the influence of narcotics. As Trooper Farmer attempted to direct the individual out of the roadway, the pedestrian pulled away and started to resist. Subsequently, Trooper Farmer took the suspect to the ground and attempted to apply handcuffs.
The suspect continued to resist and attempted to conceal his hands. At this time, two Good Samaritans observed the incident and pulled over to assist. Glendon Nichols was the first to arrive and acted quickly. Nichols assisted in controlling the suspect, which gave Trooper Farmer the opportunity to effectively apply handcuffs. Once the suspect was handcuffed, Nichols remained on the scene until backup officers arrived.
In addition to Mr. Nichols’s efforts, Ms. Nicole Hayes was another Good Samaritan who immediately assisted. During the altercation, several of Trooper Farmer’s equipment items became detached from his person. As Trooper Farmer and Mr. Nichols worked together to gain control of the suspect, Ms. Nichols secured all of Trooper Farmer’s items, including his body-worn camera. She also remained on scene and safeguarded those items until backup officers arrived.
