Buckeye Construction and Restoration (BCR) of Wellston was spotted on Monday, Nov. 24, beginning the process of reclaiming limestone from Jackson’s Memorial Building at 145 Broadway St. BCR crew members are pictured on the roof of the 88-year-old structure as they worked to detach large pieces of limestone from the front/top of the building. A very large crane could be seen hoisting the pieces of limestone from the roof to a nearby trailer on the ground. In early October, BCR had the “lowest and most responsive bid” at $149,072, so Jackson City Council accepted that bid. The current building will be demolished to make way for the construction of the new City Hall building on the same site. The demolition work will come after the project of reclaiming the limestone with the aim of incorporating it into the new building in some way. This would be a way to connect the heritage of the old building with the new building. Jackson Mayor Randy Evans told The Telegram that BCR is slated to work three to four weeks on reclamation of the limestone. Evans noted that the City of Jackson would hopefully be meeting with BCR and the architect on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 26 to discuss whether or not the limestone that is being salvaged from the current building is worth using in the new building or not.
