JEAN SUE (REYNOLDS) HAMMOND

Jean Sue (Reynolds) Hammond, age 89, of Chillicothe and formerly of Jackson, Ohio, passed away at her home on April 2, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born on October 16, 1933, in New Castle, Virginia to the late Clarence Dewey and Maude Mae (Caldwell) Reynolds.

She is survived by her beloved son, Jeffrey Allen Hammond, of Chillicothe (formerly of Jackson); special and dear family friends: Bud Fausnaugh of Chillicothe and George McKinniss of Columbus; sisters: V. Eloise Parks (Charles Parks) of Washington C.H., E. Joanne Chapman (Wendell Chapman) of Wilkesville, and Phyllis M. Cribben (Roger Cribben) of Jackson; sister-in-law, Janice A. (Hunley) Reynolds (James T. Reynolds) of Washington C.H., Ohio; along with several nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.

Jean was a loving, dedicated mother and a caring and loyal sister and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald B. Hammond; brothers: Paschal Dewey, Sidney Wesley, Giles Elliott, Max Rodell, and James Thurman Reynolds; as well as several brothers/sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces.

She was a 1952 graduate of Jackson High School and attended Brookside Church in Chillicothe. Jean was an extremely hard worker, taking personal pride with all she accomplished. She held many jobs throughout her life – most notable were as a teacher’s aide for 31 years with Jackson City Schools; as a nurse’s aide with Heartland of Jackson; and as an assembly line worker with former Goodyear Rubber and Tire Plant in Jackson. Until Jean’s health began to decline, she enjoyed making short trips – faithfully – to visit her sisters and family as well as tending to her home, yard and, most importantly, the care of her much loved son and cats.
