JANICE ELANOR (WEITZEL) VON THAER
Janice Eleanor (Weitzel) Von Thaer, age 80, of Jackson, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 15, 2023, in Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Akron, Ohio on October 6, 1942.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lewis and Ruth (Smith) Weitzel; her son, Thomas Von Thaer; her sister, Patricia Midour; and her husband of 50 years, Fred Von Thaer, Jr. She is survived by her son, Lewis (Jennifer) Von Thaer; one daughter, Kimberlee R. Secord; brother-in-law, James (Penny) Von Thaer; one sister, Peggy (Bill) Van Horn; six grandchildren: Sarah (Kurt) Von Thaer, Timothy Von Thaer, Tifany Von Thaer, Brooks Von Thaer, Hailee (Dustin) Simpson, and Dustin Dawdy; nine great-grandchildren; and her loving nieces and nephews.
Jan loved being with her family. She and Fred devoted themselves to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. They would regularly travel to visit everyone, and Jan checked in by phone every Sunday. She enjoyed working in her garden, looking for ladybugs, and filling the hummingbird feeder. Jan adored her dogs and always had a dachshund by her side. Known as “Super Jan,” she was a force of nature.
The family wishes to thank all of the staff that took care of Jan through the years, and we also thank the hospice team, who were a great comfort.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
