Jackson’s ‘Freedom Fest’ slated for July 3; 5K Run/Walk to follow on July 4Free Access

This year, Jackson’s “Freedom Fest’” promises to be more exciting than ever, as it coincides with the first Thursday of the month. This timing has made it possible for the Jackson Firefighters Association (JFA) to collaborate with the Jackson Sidewalk Market and Jackson City Recreation Department, adding even more to the festivities.

The event will be held on the evening of Thursday, July 3. It will feature fun-filled activities, food trucks, vendors, evening parade, and will conclude with a fireworks display.

Some activities will start around 4 p.m. in Jackson’s Manpower Park. There will be activities, sponsored by Apple Tots and Faith & Fitness Studio, for area children. Also be sure to check out some tasty treats from food trucks in the park or dine at a downtown restaurant before heading to the park.

The Jackson Sidewalk Market has announced that it will have vendors inside Manpower Park from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. Additionally, there will be vendors downtown from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., in a modified area different from what is normally set up. Be sure to explore the variety of market vendors available.

The parade lineup will be on Broadway Street between Broad and South streets. All participants should start lining up at 7 p.m. There is no registration for the parade and everyone is invited to attend. The parade will pull out at 8 p.m. and the route will be Broadway Street to Main Street to Manpower Park. For those who would like to pass out candy during the parade, it must be handed out; no throwing of candy will be permitted.

The grand finale for the night will be a spectacular fireworks display that will light up the night sky sometime between 9:45 p.m.  and 10 p.m. Stephen Moore, President of the Jackson Firefighters Association (JFA), told The Telegram that $11,000 was being spent on fireworks this year from American Fireworks Company. The display will be shot from Eddie Jones Park and should last about 12 to 15 minutes.

Moore noted that the JFA is still accepting monetary donations for the fireworks display, which are tax-deductible. Anyone who wants to support the fireworks in the form of monetary donations can mail donations to: Jackson Firefighters Association, 152 Peral St., Jackson, Ohio 45640.

As a reminder, the City of Jackson will close certain areas of the city on July 3 for preparation and safety reasons related to the fireworks display. Eddie Jones Park on Harding Avenue, the Jackson City Bike Path and Dog Park will be closed all day; public restrooms in the park will be closed at 9 p.m. Also, Harding Avenue, from the bridge to Water Street, as well as Veterans Drive, from Harding Avenue to Carr Street, will be closed starting at 9:30 p.m. and until the fireworks are over.

The following morning, on Friday, July 4, the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Jackson Freedom Fest 5K Run/Walk beginning at 9 a.m. There will be medals awarded for top finishers. More information about the race can be found online at https://tristateracer.com/race/12942.
