The Jackson First Church of the Nazarene, located at 251 Powell Drive, will be preparing and serving take-home meals for those impacted by the current federal government shutdown.
The church has announced that its kitchen will be providing meals to take home and enjoy for individuals and families — particularly those affected by the likely delay in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The meals can be picked up on Saturday, Nov. 1 from 12 to 2 p.m. Those residents who might be homebound and would like a meal delivered can request delivery. For delivery, contact the church by phone (740-286-2864) between the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The Ohio Department of Job & Family Services recently announced that SNAP recipients may not receive their November benefits as normally scheduled if the federal government shutdown continues. Ohio has been informed by its SNAP benefits card (EBT) vendor that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has confirmed SNAP recipients will be able to access their existing benefits after Oct. 31. However, the issuance of November benefits may be impacted. Once again, any remaining benefits from October can be accessed.
