State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) is praising the decision by Honda to build its multi-billion-dollar electronic vehicle battery plant in Fayette County. The new factory will provide an estimated 2,200 well-paying jobs. Peterson said the decision to build the plant in Fayette County is the result of years of hard work and planning.
“When I was serving as a Fayette County Commissioner some 15 years ago, Honda executives walked into my office and told me our site was perfect for their automating plant, but they were going to build it in Indiana because of a better business climate there,” said Peterson. “I set out to fix that once I got elected to the legislature. Working with other lawmakers, we’ve made Ohio the first pick for firms like Honda and Intel by dramatically reducing onerous regulations and taxes.”
The $4.2 billion Honda project was coordinated through the efforts of Governor’s office, JobsOhio and the Ohio Department of Development. In addition to investing $3.5 billion in building the factory in Fayette Country, Honda will spend $700 million retooling three plants in Anna, East Liberty and Marysville for the purpose of EV manufacturing.
“Honda is Ohio,” said Ohio Senate President Matt Huffman. “It’s the remarkable result of the dedicated Ohioans who have helped grow Honda Ohio’s initial investment in 1982 into the worldwide leader it is today.”
