A collaboration involving Total Media, local musician Ben Davis, Jr., and Rowdy’s Smokehouse of Jackson is set to offer remote listeners/viewers and in-person event goers alike a live, one-hour music variety show every Thursday night throughout the month of October, which will be available on Pure Rock 98.7 FM as well as Main Street TV (MSTV).

The shows are scheduled for Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature the “roots,” “Appalachian,” and/or “Americana” musical stylings of various local artists, including, of course, those of the show’s host and namesake, Ben Davis, Jr. Each night’s featured artist will also continue to perform at Rowdy’s for an additional hour following the close of the Homegrown Happy Hour program.

As Total Media Ad Executive and on-air personality Rodney “Porterhouse” Tomblin explained, the idea for this program came to him while sitting with Rowdy’s owner Nathan Kitts, Davis, and others, when a few of those present began playing their guitars and singing.

“You know how cool and calm that atmosphere is,” he said. “I thought, how cool would that be to try and translate that atmosphere onto the radio? That’s the feel we’re looking for.”

In addition to music, the Homegrown Happy Hour with Ben Davis, Jr. will likewise feature, among other things, question-and-answer sessions with the night’s musical guest.

Stay tuned to all things Total Media – The Radio, The Telegram, Zip Printing, MSTV, Total Media’s digital billboard, various social-media platforms, and more for updates on this developing new program that is promoting all things local.
