In February 2024, Fluor BWXT (FBP) and members of the Joint Economic Development Initiative of Southern Ohio (JEDISO) traveled to Ross County to provide an economic development grant to aid in the expansion of Herr Foods, Inc. The $50,000 grant allowed the family-owned and operated business to hire an additional 30 employees and expand production.
Herr’s is now constructing a new factory located in Jackson County that will locally produce some of their popular snacks. Recently, FBP and JEDISO provided an additional $50,000 grant to assist the company with its expansion.
“We are truly grateful for the support FBP and JEDISO have provided over the last two years,” said Herr’s Foods Plant Manager, Kevin McCorkle. “These additional funds will help us continue to grow and expand, creating even more jobs.”
Part of FBP’s commitment to the community is supporting small businesses through economic development grants and creating partnerships to enhance programs and grow the four-county region.
“This company is a local success story,” said FBP President and CEO Greg Wilkett. “They continue to grow and expand, and we are honored to help them make that hurdle to the next level of their success, keeping local dollars local.”
Tammy Eallonardo, Director of Greater Chillicothe and Ross County Economic Development, said grants like these attract more businesses to the area.
As part of Fluor-BWXT’s community commitment, significant economic investments are being made in the region through FBP’s partnership with JEDISO. The goal is to create and retain jobs for a sustainable and strong economy in Jackson, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties. Since 2011, FBP has provided more than $1 billion in economic grants — creating and retaining thousands of jobs in the four-county region.
