The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) has made major progress in its follow-up investigation of a hit-and-run crash last Tuesday evening, April 22, near Oak Hill which left a two-year-old boy injured.
An OSHP officer involved in the investigation confirmed Friday morning, April 25, to The Telegram that investigators believe the pickup truck which was involved in that incident had been located — although that location was not disclosed. The officer speaking with The Telegram said he felt that investigators were confident that the pickup truck is same vehicle involved in the hit-and-run crash.
As of early Friday afternoon, the suspected driver remained at large and had not been publicly identified. However, further developments were expected as the investigation continued into Friday afternoon.
OSHP troopers from the Jackson Post responded on Tuesday evening to what was described as a “serious” injury-related crash on State Route 93 north of Oak Hill and just north of the Zane Oak Road intersection. The crash occurred at approximately 8:05 p.m.
According to an OSHP news release, a red Dodge Dakota pickup truck was traveling southbound on State Route 93 when it struck a two-year-old boy in the roadway. The vehicle then continued off the right side of the road where it came to a controlled rest. The crash occurred in front of the child’s residence and as the father came to render first aid, the driver left the scene and drove the pickup truck southbound on State Route 93.
The child was transported to the Adena Regional Hospital in Chillicothe, before being flown to Children’s Hospital, in Columbus and was reportedly in good condition the following morning on Wednesday.
The fleeing pickup truck was believed to be a red or possibly maroon Dodge Dakota, crew cab four-door pickup truck between model years 2005 to 2011. The identity of the driver and the pickup truck were not immediately known.
OSHP released a photo which investigators believe showed the suspect pickup truck. The photo was taken moments after the crash by a nearby security camera. A second security-camera photo of the suspect truck was released on Thursday and appeared to have been taken on State Route 93 near WesBanco’s Ironmakers Branch on East Main Street, which is also State Route 93. OSHP and other area law enforcement agencies posted the photos in the hope of receiving information from the general public.
