A group of Vinton County citizens is planning a free Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Event co-organizer Tiffiany Harvey noted that the dinner will be held at the First Christian Church at 207 High St. in McArthur from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. She stated that the dinner would have a traditional menu theme. It will feature turkey with all the traditional sides, including mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, and much more. There will also be pie and drinks available. The guests can eat inside at a table or take the dinner home.
Harvey stated that she and her friends think this dinner is an opportunity to bring people together for fellowship. She believes this dinner is something new for Vinton County and hopes to make it an annual event.
Harvey explained that organizers have started a Facebook event page for Community Thanksgiving Dinner. She noted the holidays are billed as the happy time of year, but she also realizes many people face challenges this time of year and coming together with friends and neighbors is a good way to spread cheer and make the holidays better. The group issued the following statement on the Facebook page.
“We know the holidays aren’t easy for everyone. This time of year can bring a lot of pressure from financial struggles to the stress of making ends meet, putting food on the table, or simply not feeling like you have a place to gather. No one should carry that weight alone. That’s why we’re opening our doors and hearts to the community for a free Thanksgiving dinner.
“Whether you’re facing hard times, feeling alone, or want to share a warm meal with others, you are welcome here. Let’s come together as a community — to share food, kindness, and connection. Spread the word — everyone is welcome!”
Harvey is hoping everyone will enjoy the event and make it their place to spend the holidays with them for many years.
