Charlotte “Gay” Mahle, age 83, of Wellston, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. She passed peacefully at Four Winds Nursing Facility.

CHARLOTTE GAY MAHLE
Gay was born on November 7, 1942, in Baileysville, West Virginia, to James Curtis “J.C.” and Gladys Mae Blankenship. During World War II, her family moved to Wellston in search of employment while her father served overseas in the U.S. Army.
On February 5, 1966, Gay married her soulmate, Robert E. Mahle, and together they built a loving home. Nine months later, they welcomed their only daughter, Mary Ann Mahle-Wyant, who became the center of their world. Gay’s home was always open to family and friends — a place filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of good food. Her fried apple pies became legendary, and she delighted in cooking for others. Gay enjoyed crocheting and generously shared her handmade blankets and scarves with anyone who asked. Her sense of humor was endearing; she could find a joke in any situation, bringing comfort and joy to those around her.
Despite facing health challenges over the years, Gay lived life on her own terms and embraced every moment with grace and happiness. Her humor, love, and treasured recipes will live on through those who loved her.
Gay was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Mahle; her parents, J.C. and Gladys Blankenship; her sister, Deborah Hatten; her brother, James “Leonard” Blankenship (Donice); her beautiful niece, Eryn Gay Thompson; her nephew, Randy Henry; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann Mahle-Wyant and Michael Wyant; granddaughters: Micaela Wyant-Taylor (Brody Taylor) and Madelyne P. Rossetti (Anthony Rossetti); sisters: Angela Henry and Cheri Thompson; and her beloved aunt, Margie Hammond.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, December 2, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the McWilliams Funeral Home in Wellston. In keeping with Gay’s wishes, cremation will follow the calling hours. Private burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Sts. Peter & Paul Church, 227 South New York Ave, Wellston, Ohio 45692. The family asks that you honor her memory by sharing a meal with loved ones and telling a joke — just as Gay would have wanted.
