The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about outsiders who may attempt to defraud local residents in what could be described as a sealant scam.

SHERIFF TEDD FRAZIER
The Sheriff’s Office put out a Nixle alert Saturday afternoon, June 28 that there were several people from North Carolina and South Carolina showing up at residences and offering to put sealant on driveways. The Nixle alert stated this was a scam and warned residents not to give these people any money.
Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier told The Telegram later Saturday afternoon that the scam involves the driveway sealers trying to pass off motor oil as sealant, then collecting a fee for their work. Frazier was not aware that any money had been given to these scammers but said they had attempted to pull off their scam at least one place. The perpetrators were not located, but Frazier and the Sheriff’s Office wanted to warn the public in case they showed up at other residences.
The sheriff noted that the same sealant scam was successfully pulled off at least once at a Jackson County residence seven or eight years ago.
