Anti-Stigma Health Fair scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7 in McArthurFree Access


The Vinton County Post Overdose Response Team (PORT), along with the Vinton County Health Department, will be hosting an Anti-Stigma Health Fair on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Vinton County Middle School. The objective is to eliminate the stigma around substance abuse.

The guest speaker will be former Detroit Lions quarterback Eric Hipple, who wrote a book entitled Real Men Do Cry. He will draw on his own experience to address the issues of substance use disorders, suicide loss and other mental health difficulties. The Vinton County Health Department will be joined by representatives of various public and private agencies which deal with such topics related to substance abuse and its impacts.\

There will also be some fun attractions at the event, including a caricature artists, the Mark Wood Fun Show, a bouncy house, Rockin’ Reggie, hair wraps and a fire truck from the McArthur Fire Department. On the food side, Rowdy’s BBQ will be present and Mister Softee will be selling soft-serve ice cream and slushies.
