Bomb threat called in to Vinton County Courthouse, but nothing found



The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a bomb threat which was made against the Vinton County Courthouse shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, June 16. After a search of approximately one hour, the courthouse was declared clear after law enforcement and other public-safety personnel found no bomb.

UPDATE: As of approximately 3:05 p.m., Wednesday, Vinton County public safety officials declared the Vinton County Courthouse safe and clear following a bomb threat, which was received at approximately 2 p.m.

The Vinton County Board of Elections will have a board meeting Thursday, June 17 at 3 p.m. at the Vinton County Board of Elections Office on St. Rt. 93 in McArthur.

The Telegram has confirmed that, as of 2 p.m., there is an active bomb threat at the Vinton County Courthouse in McArthur. Courthouse staffers have been evacuated and have currently gathered at a nearby safe location. The building in on lockdown status while public safety personnel are searching and inspecting the building.
