CHILLICOTHE – The Vinton County cross country teams traveled to Chillicothe on Saturday to run in the Unioto Invitational. The boys and girls teams both finished fifth overall.

In the latest update to Ohio’s ranking system for all 88 counties considering highest COVID-19 occurrence per 100,000 people, Jackson County was listed at 7th worst, with 81 cases from Sept. 28 to Oct. 11, which equates to 249.9 cases per 100,000 people. At the top of that list, which was released during the Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 13 press conference, was Athens County, while Vinton County was listed at 28th.

Oak Hill Village to pursue Neighborhood Revitalization grant, meeting set Oct. 17




The Jackson County Commissioners have set up a meeting to discuss the possibility of the Village of Oak Hill applying for a Neighborhood Revitalization Grant. The money would be for projects in the village, but the grant would go through the commissioners’ office.

Wellston Council meetings closed to the public until further notice

‘Fighting Back’ against addiction group meetings on Wednesday evenings

The Jackson County Commissioners canceled their Tuesday, Oct. 13 meeting, due to the Columbus Day holiday on Oct. 12.

‘No games being played’: 16 layoff notices given



In light of major budgetary shortages projected in the City of Jackson’s General Fund for 2021, Jackson Mayor Randy Evans issued layoff notices Friday afternoon, Oct. 9, to 12 full-time and four part-time city employees whose positions are paid out of the General Fund budget.
