Thursday is final day to purchase 2019 dog tags in Jackson County



Time is running out to purchase 2019 dog tags before the deadline later this week. Dog licenses must be purchased no later than this Thursday, Jan. 31, in order to avoid a financial penalty. Jackson County Dog Warden Deb Fout reminds the public that sale of these licenses is the sole funding for the Jackson County Dog Pound. All dogs are legally required to be licensed in the state of Ohio.

Veterans Commission Meeting postponed, reset for Wednesday, Jan. 30



The monthly meeting of the Jackson County Veterans Service Commission, which was to have been held on Monday afternoon, Jan. 28, was postponed and will be conducted Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 3:30 p.m. Commission meetings are held at the Jackson County Veterans Service Office located at 157 Broadway St. in downtown Jackson.

Family Life Center to open as shelter for two cold nights



With the coldest weather of the winter expected the next two nights, the Jackson County Homelessness Committee and Christ United Methodist Church of Jackson will open the Family Life Center gymnasium portion this Tuesday night and Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night for anyone needing a place to stay. The Family Life Center is located at 150 Portsmouth Street next to the Jackson Police Station.
