Ironladies capture SEOAL title

The Jackson Ironladies softball team captured the 2017 SEOAL championship in the final year of the league with a 6-5 win at Logan on Wednesday afternoon. The Ironladies closed out the regular season at home on Friday with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Warren Local.

TRACK: Vinton County girls sixth, boys 10th in Vinton County Invitational
McARTHUR - The Vinton County girls' track team had 13 top-eight finishes to place sixth at the 16th Annual Vinton County Track and Field Invitational on Wednesday at Vinton County High School.

The Vinton County boys finished with 8.50 points to finish 10th among the 11 teams at the event.

BASEBALL: Ironmen lose at home to Athens 13-4
JACKSON - The bats couldn't generate enough offense, the pitching struggled in the later inning and errors were costly for the Jackson Ironmen baseball team on Thursday afternoon.

The Ironmen fell 13-4 to the Athens Bulldogs at Dick "Sparky" Haller Field on Thursday, falling to 7-11 on the season.

MOREHEAD, Ky. - Junior Chelsea McManaway threw her fourth no-hitter of the year and struck out 13 as Morehead State softball downed East Tennessee State 1-0 in game one on Wednesday afternoon.

WELLSTON - It was a tough Wednesday afternoon for the Wellston Golden Rockets as they dropped an 18-0 Tri-Valley Conference Ohio decision to Athens Bulldogs in a five inning contest... Before the game, the Wellston High School Athletic Department honored seniors Nick Cox, Noah Henry, Dylan Foster, Hunter Whalen, and Chase Whicker for the respective careers and for the commitment to the program.

Going into the OHSAA Officials Hall of Fame

Wellston's John Derrow understands that as well as anyone.

After stepping away from a long and outstanding officiating career that lasted for more than two decades, he is being inducted into the Ohio High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame in June 2017.

Three new members were inducted recently into the Wellston High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Inducted into the 2017 Hall of Fame Class were Frank Bates, Class of 1955; Roger Trace, Class of 1983; and Lance Phillips, Class of 2005.

SOFTBALL: Lady Oaks rally to beat Northwest
OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Lady Oaks rallied from an 11-3 deficit to register a 12-11 SOC Division II softball win over the Northwest Lady Mohawks on Thursday at home.

Oak Hill trailed 11-3 going into the bottom of the fifth inning when they pounded out half their hits for the game (6) and scored nine runs to go ahead.

JACKSON - The Jackson Ironmen tennis team captured a league win with a 5-0 sweep of Athens on Thursday at home.

Jackson won four of its five matches by straight sets to improve to 3-1 in SEOAL play.

SOFTBALL: Lady Oaks lose 5-3 at Waverly, as Lady Tigers earn the season sweep
OAK HILL - After Monday's 19-3 shellacking against the Waverly Lady Tigers at home, the Oak Hill Lady Oaks made a better showing, before falling 5-3 on Wednesday at Waverly.

Pitching highlighted the game as Hannah Robinson went the distance, allowing just three Oak Hill hits while striking out five and issuing six free passes, four of which were hit batsmen to earn the win.
