SOFTBALL: Run ends in district championship game for Lady Rockets
CHILLICOTHE - Universal truth reminds us that everything must come to an end.

It did on Saturday for the top-seeded Wellston Lady Rockets, as they closed the book on their 2017 season after falling 7-3 to No. 2 seed Piketon at Unioto High School to finish as the Division III District runner-up.

2017 baseball and softball SEOAL teams announced
Seven Jackson High School softball players earned All-SEOAL honors, announced on Thursday morning. The Ironladies had five players tabbed to the first team, led by Player of the Year and starting first baseman Jordan Banks.

Also, Jackson head coach Shane Wolford was named Coach of the Year in the SEOAL in 2017.

Coming off sectional tournament play recently, the Jackson Ironmen tennis team finished off Southeastern Ohio Athletic League play with a 3-2 loss against Gallia Academy on Monday.

SOFTBALL: Wellston outlast Southeastern to advance to district tourney
WELLSTON - Wellston's Erica Scott and Ashley Compston changed the complexion of Friday's sectional final against Southeastern in the third inning.

The Lady Rockets' starting center fielder and pitcher began the inning with back-to-back doubles.

Compston's double drove in Scott to tie the game 1-1 and started a tide-turning three-run rally, as the Lady Rockets went on to earn a 4-2 win over Southeastern in the Division II sectional championship game at Nancy Kibler Field.

COLLEGE SIGNING: Connor Radune signs to play tennis at Otterbein
Jackson High School senior Connor Radune has played a lot of tennis the past four years and enjoyed plenty of success.

During that time, he has qualified to the district tournament three times, which includes this year and finished one spot of earning a berth into the state tournament as a junior.

On Monday, May 1, Radune signed a national letter of intent to continue his athletic career at Otterbein University, playing for Coach Tyler Stevens and the Cardinals.
