2018 Freedom Fest 5K Run announced
The 22nd annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K Run And Walk will be held on Wednesday, July 4 and will be run through the business district and western residential section of Jackson.
The race will begin and end at Manpower Park. When it starts at Manpower Park at 9 a.m., runners will go north on Main Street toward the downtown. They will turn left onto Portsmouth Street, right onto Broad Street, left onto Oak Street, left on Ohio Avenue, then left on South Street. The runners will then turn right on David Avenue, left on Tropic Street, left on Vaughn Street, right on South Street, left onto Broadway Street and then right onto Main Street with the race ending at Manpower Park.
The course has been certified, with 150 to 200 runners expected.
Entry fee is $20 for pre-registration and can be made through TriStateRacer.com. Registration the day of the race will be $25. Proceeds will go toward the sponsoring of community events by the Jackson Area Chamber Of Commerce.
All participating runners will receive newly designed Sports Festival T-shirts. The race will be timed by TriStateRacer.com.
Plaques will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers and medals will be given to the top three finishers in all age divisions, outside of those winning plaques, in both the male and female categories.
No pre-registration is required and may be made the day of the race, but pre-registration is strongly encouraged and runners may pre-register at TriStateRacer.com and receive a $5 discount off the registration.
There will also be a one-mile walk starting simultaneously with the 5K Run. Those wishing to participate in the walk, which has no registration fee, may purchase a T-shirt for $15. That course will be north on Main Street to the courthouse, then left on Broadway Street and left on Pearl Street back to Manpower Park.
