McARTHUR - The Vinton County Lady Vikings took on the Oak Hill Lady Oaks in a non-conference softball doubleheader and came away with both a win and a loss on Saturday at home.

The day didn't start well for the Lady Oaks. In the top of the second inning in the first game, they led 1-0, before Vinton County quickly tacked on two runs in the bottom half of the inning and added three more in the sixth en route to a 5-2 win.
It was truly a battle of the pitchers for five and one-half innings, before the tide of the game changed in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Lady Vikings loaded the bases and Kelsey Ward, who reached on a fielder's choice scored on a passed ball. Then a single by Josie Hembree scored Brooksanne Barnett and Hembree scored on a single by Destiny Ward for a 5-2 lead.
From there, Vinton County starter Shayla Reffitt retired the side in the Lady Oaks' half of the seventh to seal the win for the Lady Vikings.
Reffitt went the distance in the pitching circle for Vinton County, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks to earn the victory.
Meanwhile, Oak Hill pitcher Timea Burnett suffered the loss, as she surrendered five runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Hembree went 2-for-3 with a single and double, while scoring two runs to lead Vinton County.

The second game of the doubleheader was an offensive slug fest between the two teams.
After a half of an inning, the Lady Oaks led 2-0. But Timea Burnett ran into some trouble in the bottom of the first inning when B. Hunt doubled in a pair of runs and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooksanne Barnett to give the Lady Vikings a 3-2 advantage.
The Lady Vikings added a run in the second to extend their lead to 4-2.
However, Oak Hill exploded for four runs off Vinton County starter Destiny Ward in the top of the third inning, as the Lady Oaks capitalized on a Vinton County error that allowed the first two-runs to score. Then Brooklyn Carpenter, who doubled, scored on a single by Bailey Clutters.
Clutters came around to score on Burnett's single two batters later to take a 6-4 lead.
Vinton County added a single run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Kelsey Ward to close within a run at 6-5.
But Caitlyn Brisker's solo home run in the top of the fourth, sparked a three-run inning to put Oak Hill up 9-5, before the Lady Vikings rallied with a pair of the runs in the fourth and another one in the fifth to close within a run.
It was the seventh home run of the season for Brisker.
The Lady Oaks again capitalized on a Vinton County error that resulted in two runs scoring to lead 11-8.
Vinton County attempted a rally in the bottom of the seventh when Hembree singled and Darian Radabaugh doubled to begin the inning.
Hembree scored on a Kelsey Ward's groundball out, before Burnett was able to end it when she got B. Hunt to pop-out to second base and Barnett grounded out to shortstop for the win.

McARTHUR - The Vinton County Lady Vikings lost a 12-7 Tri-Valley Conference Ohio Division decision to the Athens Lady Bulldogs Friday afternoon.
Vinton County was led offensively by Darian Radabaugh with a homerun, two singles and two RBI"S. Her homerun came in second inning with Shalynn Reffett aboard. Brianna Hunt also had three hits, consisting of a double, two singles and two RBI's while Destiny Ward added two singles to the mix.
