Large billboard-sized electronic sign goes up on East Main Street
A new billboard-sized electronic sign has been placed and will soon be put into operation at one of Jackson's most heavily traveled locations at the intersection of East Main Street and Anderson Drive, and just across the highway from McCarty Lane.

Passenger in car found with 20.9 grams of Cocaine
The driver received a Speeding ticket, but the passenger faces a much more serious charge as the result of a recent traffic stop by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

According to Sheriff Tedd Frazier, the traffic stop occurred at 4:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, just outside Jackson on U.S. Route 35 near the State Route 93 interchange.

JPD seek help in identifying suspects in shoplifting crime
Jackson Police are requesting the public's assistance in identifying a male suspect and a possible female accomplice who were allegedly involved in the attempted theft of more than $700 worth of merchandise from the Jackson Walmart store last Sunday evening, April 19.

Police have released photographs of the two suspects, whose images were caught on the store's surveillance cameras during the incident. Attempts were made by store personnel to detain the male suspect who was in possession of the merchandise, but he fled the scene before police officers arrived.

Pigeon Creek bank eroding near Coalton Village Hall
A small creek which flows through the Village of Coalton was a topic of discussion during the village council meeting of Monday, April 20 since a bank near Coalton Village Hall is eroding and is within about fifty feet of the structure. Named Pigeon Creek, the small body of flowing water is known for its ability to flood during periods of high rain.

Suspect who fled from Jackson bar was wanted for crimes against the elderly
The Chillicothe man implicated in several recent thefts victimizing elderly persons in Jackson was apprehended early Sunday morning, April 19, after he failed to pay a large bill he had racked up while drinking at a Jackson bar.

Jackson Police officers captured 34-year-old Mason Hamilton shortly after he left Johnny Raughtens bar, located at 601 East Main Street in Jackson. Police say Hamilton had accumulated a bill of $90.50 while he was at the bar during the hours of late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, ordering beer, mixed drinks, and whiskey.

LAUNCH gets a new lease on life
While one door is closing for the LAUNCH organization in Jackson County, another door is now opening, which will allow the highly praised youth development coalition program to continue.

Recently, LAUNCH leaders regretfully announced the news that the program would be closing by the end of the school year due to a lack of operational funding.

Suspect sought in three thefts from elderly Jackson women
The Jackson Police Department is on the lookout for a Chillicothe man who is accused of recently stealing from three different elderly women in Jackson, including two cases which occurred within the past week.

Police have identified the suspect as 34-year-old Mason Lee Hamilton of Second Street, Chillicothe, and say he faces theft-related charges in crimes involving the victims, ages 91, 92, and 94. The first case occurred last January and the more recent cases were reported Sunday, April 12, and Wednesday, April 15.

Workers locked out at AP Green
"Twenty-seven years for me," one man said. "Forty-two," chimed in another. The chorus of numbers continued with more workers answering, when asked how many years they have worked at the AP Green Refractories Plant near Oak Hill, "46, 36, 29, 36," they continued.

In all their years on the job, however, they had never been a part of something like this. For the first time ever in the history of the AP Green plant, workers have been locked out due to a contract dispute.
