A Jackson city firefighter examines the remains of a storage building at 2658 Smith Bridge Road, which was destroyed in a fire on Monday afternoon, June 4.
The Jackson Fire Department was dispatched at 2:59 p.m. to the residence of Bryson Jackson, located just west of Jackson off Chillicothe Pike. The building, which reportedly contained some grass-cutting equipment, was fully in flames before firefighters arrived.
Jackson Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Young reported that Richard Perkins, who is Jackson's stepfather, had just finished mowing and had parked the riding lawnmower inside the storage building when the fire somehow ignited. The fire was originally dispatched as a mobile-home fire, and the Liberty Township and Coalton fire departments were quickly called for mutual aid. However, Coalton's assistance was canceled as soon as it was determined the type of fire involved.
Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 20 minutes, but the structure and contents were total losses. Firefighters were on the scene until 3:35 p.m.
