Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Steven M. Dunn has been selected 2017 Trooper of the Year at the Jackson Post.
The selection of Trooper Dunn is in recognition of his outstanding service during 2017. Fellow officers stationed at Jackson chose Trooper Dunn based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public. Trooper Dunn also earned his Criminal Patrol Award in 2017 because of his commitment to crime intervention.
In addition to his selection as Post Trooper of the Year, Trooper Dunn was chosen by District Headquarters Staff as the Jackson District Trooper of the Year. For that award, he was selected over all troopers in the Jackson District and is now in contention for State Trooper of the Year. This is his second consecutive year receiving the award.
Trooper Dunn was born in Gallipolis and raised in Oak Hill. He graduated from Oak Hill High School in 2004. Before joining the Highway Patrol, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in Iraq from 2007 to 2008 and in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012 and was active in the Reserves until 2016.
He entered the Highway Patrol Academy in 2012 as a member of the 154th Class. Trooper Dunn was assigned to the Jackson Post upon graduation in 2013.
Trooper Dunn and his wife, Carly, reside in Oak Hill. Trooper Dunn has three daughters, Zoe, Ava, and Emma.
