A reportedly blaring stereo in his vehicle could have caused a Ray area man to receive a minor citation in Jackson late last week. Instead, after the resulting traffic stop, he is now facing the music for having a half-pound of Marijuana and a loaded handgun in his possession.
Jackson Police report that Robert H. Messer, 20, of 1084 Brohard Road, Ray, has been charged with felony counts of Improper Handling Of A Firearm In A Motor Vehicle and Possession Of Marijuana as well as a misdemeanor charge of Loud Audio as the result of a traffic stop at 12:22 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4 at the intersection of West Main and High streets in Jackson.
Jackson Police officers were stationary in an alley off North High Street when a vehicle driven by Messer passed by with its stereo blaring at a volume considered to be excessively loud. A traffic stop was made and after Messer was identified, a canine was called to the scene and it alerted on the vehicle.
Officers found a large quantity of Marijuana in a backpack as well as digital scales and a partial Suboxone pill. As it turned out, there were 248 grams of Marijuana, which amounted to about half a pound. This amount was large enough to merit a felony charge. Officers also recovered a loaded pistol from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was impounded, but Messer was charged and released due to the lack of available jail space.
