Medical Marijuana operators eyeing Vinton County

Staff Writer

A proposal to grow legalized medical Marijuana in Vinton County drew a cool reception at Monday morning's meeting of the Vinton County commissioners.

A proposal by Dr. Peter W. Howison and Dr. Omid Edwards to open and operate the Vinton County Indoor Medical Cannabis Cultivation Facility was presented to the commissioners for their information and requested support. The commissioners don't seem inclined to offer their blessing, but their official support is apparently not required for the project to proceed. However, state regulators will approve only a certain number of permits and none have yet been approved.

The Ohio General Assembly has already approved the legalization of medical Marijuana, but the provisions are still being put in place for its actual administration and operation.

The presenters for the proposed Vinton County project explained they want to apply for one of Ohio's small licenses to grow medical Marijuana, which allows for facilities from 3,000-9,000 square feet. The large-facility permits intended for big cities ranges from 25,000 to 75,000 square-foot buildings.

Dr. Howison said he is from Marion, Ohio, and has been a long-time doctor in Oregon and is coming back to Ohio to semi-retire. He also owns 80 acres in Vinton County. The proposed site would be on State Route 349 east of Hamden. He and Dr. Edwards would own the facility and possibly have some investors. He stated he has been working in this field for 19 years as Oregon has had legalized medical Marijuana for some time.

Several key points about the proposed Vinton County operation were also outlined by the presenters. Those points were:

Holzer Medical Center

* All cannabis would be grown inside and made into oil.

* The facility would be under heavy 24-hour security and have barbed wire fencing around it.

* Security would be tight and the company would have its own security guards and not overload the Sheriff's Office.

* Employees would have security guards protecting them and there would be security guards on outgoing vehicles as well.

* All products would be sold to processors and no product would get out the local community.

* The project would create at least 25 jobs and pay a considerable amount of taxes for the county and the Vinton County Local Schools.

* Foundations would be developed to provide free acupuncture to county residents.

The presenters also stated there are a number of conditions that medical Marijuana can be used for including: AIDS, Cancer, Glaucoma, Hepatitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, PTSD and many others.

In their reaction, the commissioners stated they would not write a letter of support because of their personal beliefs or experiences they have had in dealing with the Marijuana issue in Vinton County.

Commissioner Mike Bledsoe stated he would not support the project while Commissioner Tim Eberts stated he had relatives in jail because of drug use. Commissioner Mark Fout stated he is not personally in favor but as a commissioner his mission is to look out for the best interests of the county.

The commissioners also told them they could not stop the project because the county is not zoned and indicated they will write a letter stating there are not zoning laws prohibiting the project.

The proposed operators are planning to apply for the permit and they thanked the commissioners for their attention and honesty and say they are looking forward to a good working relationship, if the permit is approved.

... and after the meeting the commissioners went out for a beer. WHY, because we all know that legal drugs like alcohol kill no one, neither do the tobacco products.
You know what's even funnier. We can't seem to find very many if any people who have died from cannabis. I can tell yo of one person who is alive because of it with no more heart problems. That would be me.
It's also showing great promise in CURING cancer.
Here's how it works oh foolish leaders. Medical use comes first, then after the will of the people are ignored they put it back on the ballot for decriminalision after you all muck that up, they pass it and because of your actions, back to the ballo and this time it's made legal for recreational use. THEN you discover that for years you've been lied to about its many good uses. Your death rate from overdoses will also go down. Oh and the one in jail, think about it before you try that as an excuse to stop it. Here's an idea, get together at the local bar, have your beers and talk about it until you're blue in the face. Which could mean you drank to much and died.
Which makes you just another victim of alcohol abuse.
OH and the last time I visited I notice that one of you guys had a phone up to your ear, yes, while you were driving. Another killer that you don't really care about.
Pot, no accurate death count, Tobacco, alcohol distracted driving and abuse of heavy drugs. Well over 100,000 deaths a YEAR!
But don't fret, in about another 5 to 10 years it will be totally legal and many of your ladies will NOT be dying of things like breast cancer. But my fear is you already know all of this but want that extra large police/ law enforcement budgets.
You might want to see what it has done in states where it's legal. No not the internet sites that preach the same lies that you do. Try the law and medical sites. Then by all means go crawl back into your caves and be as stupid as you want. Oh, it also works on skin cancers. Your lies are catching up with you...

The drug abuse issue is HORRIBLE. Not only in the SE Ohio region, but everywhere! This is not the fault of marijuana. Marijuana is a natural drug that has outstanding PROVEN results treatment of the glaucoma, Parkinson's and for the side effects of many other diseases. The benefits far outweigh the risks. If I had the power to choose any drug for people to use recreationally, I would choose Marijuana. No one has ever died from an overdose like they are doing now on all these man-made and pharmaceutical produced drugs people are taking now!
