Jackson High School senior wrestler Billy Cooper made local sports history last Saturday when he became the all-time winningest wrestler in school history as he earned his 129th match victory Saturday in an invitational tournament at Albany Alexander.
Cooper won five individual matches to earn the individual championship in the pound weight class. The very first victory that day gave Cooper the all-time victory mark as he began the season tied with Jon Ferris at 124 for the all-time JHS record.
Cooper's achievement is all the more impressive because he had to sit out the first part of this his senior season, due to a serious knee injury suffered last summer in a football seven-on-seven exhibition. The injury forced him to miss his entire senior football season and Saturday's match was his first of the season.
In addition to Cooper's achievement, senior teammate Kyle Kirby also reached a major milestone, also last Saturday in an invitational match at Nelsonville-York, when he won his 100th career match.
