Jackson resident Karisa DeLay is a modern-day Renaissance woman. Artist, published author, stylist, mother of four, and wife, DeLay can now officially add business owner to her long list of accomplishments as her new business, The LOCAL Gallery, was officially welcomed to Jackson Thursday with a Grand Opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony courtesy of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Three young women and one young man have been selected by the American Legion Jefferson Howe Post 81 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 81 of Jackson to take part in this year's Buckeye Boys and Girls State programs.

OHHS Band Room named in honor of former Band Director Ed Keslar
The Oak Hill Union Schools are honoring the late OHHS band director Ed Keslar by naming the high school band room in his honor. Mr. Keslar, who died Friday, February 19, 2016, was the band director and music teacher for five years (2000-2005) and retired because of a medical issue.

JHS's Little Mermaid a big hit
After having been a big hit at the box office and on Broadway, Disney's production of The Little Mermaid created positive waves in Jackson as well, as large and appreciative crowds turned out last weekend, April 22-24, for the Jackson High School Drama Club's production at the Jackson Middle School auditorium.

Lillian Jones Museum a shrine to Jackson and Jackson County history
In 1867 Horace Chapman, founder of the National Bank, built a home at 75 Broadway Street in Jackson. The Edwin Jones family, actually Mrs. Lola Jones, purchased the home in 1921 several months after Edwin's death that year, and remodeled it using architect Frank Packard who had worked with Jones in the building of the Cambrian Hotel in 1900.

New life for Markay Cultural Arts Center
On October 20, 1930 the doors of the Markay Theatre, on Jackson's Main Street, swung open to the public for the first time. Excitement had been growing during the construction and the opening was finally here.

A special visitor was in Jackson Wednesday, April 20 as State Fire Marshal Larry Flowers was in town to recognize the importance and success of the Jackson Fire Department's Smoke Alarm Program and to thank the organizations who purchased the alarms the fire department gives to residents and even installs free of charge.

Ribbon cut at Wellston's 327 ballfields
While heading north on State Route 327 in the City of Wellston, it's hard not to notice the numerous ballfields that have dotted the landscape for many, many years. Countless Wellstonians have fond memories of taking to these fields in the warmer months of their youth, basking in the sunshine and dreaming of the chance to hit one over the fence.
