There was fun, food, music and games as the Summer Feeding Kickoff Party took place Friday evening, June 1, at Jackson's Manpower Park.

The entertainer for the event was Rockin' Reggie Robinson from the Health Recovery Services in Athens. There were many games involved including the limbo which the youngsters really enjoyed. There were also bubbles to blow and inflatables for the kids.

COAD/Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Ohio Valley Chapter Director Susan Rogers explained the event was hosted to promote the organization's Summer Feeding Program, which will taking place again this summer.

Rogers noted the Summer Feeding Program is a "broad-based youth development program through the Ohio Department of Education and the Governor's Office which brings low-income, at-risk youth together with adult volunteers to focus on healthy futures."

Rogers wanted to thank all the sponsors for their donations. She also wanted to give a special shout-out to Cross and Sons Farm Equipment for being a long-term sponsor of the program.

The 2018 Summer Feeding Program through COAD/RSVP of the Ohio Valley Chapter will begin this Wednesday, June 6 and continue through Friday, Aug. 10. The meals are free and are open to all children up to the age of 18, regardless of income.

The lunches will be provided each weekday between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the following locations: Holly Hills Apartments on Morton Street, Apple Hill Apartments on East Broadway Street, Stonecrest Apartments on Jisco West Road, Hickory II Apartments on David Avenue, Jackson Family Apartments on Powell Drive, Child Development Center on Pattonsville Road, and Hillcrest Pool on Huron Street.

On Friday, participating children also have the opportunity to receive "weekend bags" of food.
