The 2018 Baccalaureate Service for Wellston High School seniors will take place on Monday evening, May 21. The Wellston Ministerial Association initiates this celebration each year to honor and inspire all the graduating seniors of Wellston High School.
Dave Kelly, trustee of the Wellston Ministerial Association and pastor of the First Baptist Church in Wellston, announced that the speaker at this year's Baccalaureate Ceremony will be State Representative Ryan Smith. Pastor Kelly stated that the Wellston Ministerial Association is very pleased that Representative Smith is willing to share this memorable moment with Wellston's graduating seniors and their families.
Representative Smith is serving his third term in the Ohio House of Representatives and currently serves as the Chairman of the Finance Committee. He represents the 93rd House District, which includes Jackson and Gallia counties, as well as portions of Lawrence and Vinton counties.
Representative Smith graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Finance from The Ohio State University. Upon graduation, he began working as a financial advisor. In 2005, he joined his current financial advising firm as Vice President and Partner.
Representative Smith was twice elected to the Gallipolis City School Board, where he served as Board President. Representative Smith has been engaged in local economic development efforts as he was president of both the Gallia County Chamber of Commerce and the Gallia County Civic Improvement Corporation. Representative Smith was also a board member for Holzer Health System, one of the largest employers and healthcare providers in Southeastern Ohio.
Representative Smith and his wife Vicki have four children, Blake, Grant, Kennedy and Camryn. They reside in Bidwell, just outside of Gallipolis, where they are active in their local church.
The 2018 Wellston Baccalaureate Ceremony will be at the Wellston High School Cafetorium at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21. All graduating seniors, their family and friends are invited. There will be refreshments served following the Baccalaureate Service.
