Pre-1890 Trade Fair at Canter's Cave planned for Jan. 20 & 21
The 2018 Pre-1890 Trade Fair, run by a non-profit organization, will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and also Sunday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp, which plays host to 4-H kids from nine counties in Southern Ohio and the Sons of Liberty Muzzleloading Rifle Club. The Pre-1890 event includes many vendors in costume, demonstrating a large variety of crafts, trades and methods of living from that historic era.
This is the 20th year for the Trade Fair, covering the time line from 1700 to 1890. Approximately 30 to 35 dealers will be set up to sell clothing, patterns and fabric common to those time periods; also china, glassware, tinware, knives, tomahawks, eating utensils, candle lanterns, blacksmith-made ironware, leather goods, parts and kits for muzzleloaders, finished muzzleloading firearms, books, leather and furs, games and toys, plus numerous other items, creating an Early American atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.
The lodge at Canter's Cave has plenty of room and a large fireplace and cafeteria, which gives people the option to come and enjoy the entire day. Some even spend the weekend, as there are dorm rooms available for the night. Call Anita Harris at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp, 740-286-4058 for room information. Organizers of the Annual Pre-1890 Event donate 100 percent of the gate receipts and a percentage of the table rental income to Canter's Cave 4-H Camp. For more information on the Trade Fair, call Larry Zornes, 740-286-2743.
