Veterans' Spaghetti Dinner at Jackson Elks Lodge Jan. 25

The Jackson Elks Lodge #466 would like to invite all Jackson County veterans and their spouses/significant others to a Veterans' Spaghetti Dinner on Thursday, Jan. 25 in the Carl R. Dobbins Hall behind the Lodge, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Red Hat Ladies to meet at Ponderosa Restaurant Jan. 26

The Red Hat Razzle Dazzle Ladies will meet at Ponderosa Restaurant on Friday, Jan. 26 beginning at 11:30 a.m. "Put on your red hat and come join us for our first meeting in 2018," a spokesman invites.

Sportsman Federation Banquet at Canter's Cave Jan. 27

The Jackson County Sportsman Federation Banquet is set for Saturday, Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. at Canter's Cave 4-H Camp. Tickets cost $15 each and this includes dinner and a chance to win a muzzleloader or $100 cash. Other chance tickets will be sold at the banquet for many other items. Belt Squat Demonstration by Matt Wenning at YMCA Feb. 3

The Jackson Area YMCA will host a Belt Squat Demonstration by Matt Wenning on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in the YMCA Weight Room. Admission is free for members or $5 for non-members. Wenning designed this machine to be the most accurate to the actual squat. He will also be doing a meet-and-greet after the demonstration. Wenning holds a Masters in Biomechanics and a Bachelors in Exercise Science, and has held three world records. He has trained firefighters and individuals in the military, NFL and Olympics.

"First & Last Friday Feast" at First Presbyterian Jan. 26 & Feb. 2

A free meal will be held on the first and last Friday of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, located at 25 Church St. (across from the apple water tower); and everyone is invited. Please call the church if you are interested in volunteering, at 740-286-1928. Come enjoy food, fun, fellowship and entertainment. The next dates are Jan. 26 and Feb. 2.

Amy Duggan Classic at Northview Elementary Reset for Jan. 28

The annual Amy Duggan Classic has been rescheduled for Sunday afternoon, Jan. 28 at Northview Elementary School in Jackson. The charity event includes an exhibition basketball team matching the Hope Haven Trotters and the Playground Legends and a live auction will take place at halftime. The event honors the memory of former Hope Haven basketball player Amy Duggan, while also raising money for Hope Haven's Special Olympics program and other school projects. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the cost of admission is $5 per person.

Coal Festival-sponsored Valentine Dances at The Depot Feb. 9

The Wellston Coal Festival has announced that there will be two Valentines Dances for area elementary students on Friday night, Feb. 9 at The Depot in Wellston. The dance for students in first and second grades will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and the dance for students in third, fourth and fifth grades will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The admission for each dance is just $3 per person or $5 per couple. Pictures will be available for $1 per copy and roses will be sold for just $1 each. Kids from any school are welcome to attend.

Wellston Rotary's Annual Valentine Dinner & Dance Feb. 10

The Wellston Rotary Club will host its 8th Annual Valentine Dinner and Dance on Saturday, Feb. 10 at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Hall in Wellston. The doors open with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per person. Dinner includes a choice of either prime rib or seasoned chicken breast, plus side dishes, drinks and desserts. The evening will also feature music, a cash bar and dancing; plus, there will be a silent auction and all proceeds will be used for scholarships. Seating is limited and tickets are now available at Peoples Insurance/Peoples Bank in Jackson, at Lockard Insurance on Ohio Avenue in Wellston, and at Donna Summers Realty on Pennsylvania Avenue in Wellston.
