Blood Drive at CUMC Family Life Center May 2
Christ United Methodist Church will host a Blood Drive Tuesday, May 2 from 12:30 to 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Jackson County National Day of Prayer May 4
The Jackson County National Day of Prayer will be observed on Thursday, May 4. In the city of Jackson the prayer service will take place on the steps of the Memorial Building at 7 p.m. and inside the Memorial Building Auditorium in case of rainy weather. There will be a light supper served at 6 p.m. to the public. This year's theme is "For Your Great Name's Sake." This year's theme Scripture is taken from Daniel 9:19: "For Your great Name's sake, hear us...forgive us...heal us." Please bring your own lawn chair for seating, in case there are not enough chairs for everyone to be able to sit down for this prayer service. Various school choirs from Jackson County schools will be singing special songs for this community ecumenical service.
Wesley United Methodist Church Yard Sale April 27-28
Wesley United Methodist Church, located at 1384 Cove Road, Jackson, will be having a huge yard sale Thursday and Friday, April 27 and 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. There will be something for everyone; come and browse!
Rummage Sale at Community Action Central Office Gym May 4
A Rummage Sale, sponsored by Jackson-Vinton Community Action, Inc., will be held on Thursday and Friday, May 4 and 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Community Action's Central Office Gymnasium, 118 South New York Ave., Wellston. Some items for sale include clothing, housewares, office items and more; cash only, please. All proceeds from the sale will go toward helping low-income residents of Jackson and Vinton Counties in crisis.
Wellston Fire Department Flower Sale May 4, 5 and 6
The Wellston Fire Department Flower Sale will be held May 4, 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, at Fire Station #2 (110 West 2nd St., old Medflight Base). Bargains include: three-prong hanging baskets, $17; four-prong hanging baskets, $22; four-prong geranium hanging baskets, $25; hanging bags, $17; six-inch geranium porch planters, $25; flats, $15 or $2.50 a pack; and ferns, $25. All flowers are from Marvin's Gardens. Please come out and support the WFD.
CMA to Host Annual Run for the Son Fundraiser May 6
On Saturday, May 6, the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) will host its annual Run for the Son. The Redeemed Riders Chapter 624, one of many CMA chapters chartered in the United States, will be participating in this run. "This will be a ride in which sponsors will be sought to help raise money for the CMA to spread the light of Jesus to every nation," a spokesman noted. "Since Run for the Son began, CMA has raised over 60 million dollars to help present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to millions of people around the world. Every penny promptly goes to work. Each year, 20 percent goes for Bibles to closed and restricted countries; 20 percent goes for motorcycles to native pastors around the world; 20 percent goes to help the Jesus film spread the word of God; and 40 percent is used by CMA to help reach motorcyclists here at home in the United States and internationally." This year the goal is five million dollars. Anyone interested in participating in this event can meet at the Buckeye Community Services Building, 220 Morton St., Jackson, at 10 a.m. on May 6; kickstands up at 10:45 a.m. The group will go approximately 150 miles, round trip. OHHS Concert Band to Present "Let Freedom Ring" May 9
The Oak Hill High School Concert Band will present "Let Freedom Ring - A Musical Salute to America," Tuesday, May 9 at 7 p.m. at The University of Rio Grande Berry Fine and Performing Arts Center Alphus Christensen Theater. Bundy Elementary Kindergarten Registration May 25 & 26
Bundy Elementary announces it will soon be time for Kindergarten Registration, set for May 25 and May 26 - by appointment only (call 740-384-6245). Paperwork needed includes: Child's birth certificate; parent/guardian ID (driver's license or SS card); proof of residency (utility bill, rental receipt, etc.); and custody information if applicable. Immunizations needed include: DTaP/DTP/DT/Td - at least four, the last one being on or after fourth birthday; Polio - at least three, the last one being on or after fourth birthday; MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) - two; Hepatitis B - series of three; and Varicella (Chickenpox) - two.
Blackfork Decatur-Washington School Reunion in Oak Hill May 27
The Blackfork Decatur-Washington School Reunion of 2017 will be held on Saturday, May 27, in the social room of the Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. Registration and fellowship will begin at 5 p.m. The dinner will be served at 6 p.m.; cost is $15 per person. "Please send your prepaid reservation by May 15," a spokesman reminded. "Make checks payable to the Blackfork Alumni Association and send them to Doris Harper at 2234 Spencer Road, Ray, Ohio 45672." The spokesman added, "It is impossible for us to send everyone a letter. If you ever attended Blackfork School and would like to attend the reunion, please know that you are welcome. Rummage, Plant & Bake Sale at Hope UMC May 6
Hope United Methodist Women will hold their Annual Rummage & Bake Sale on Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Household items, tomato plants, cakes, cookies, brownies, etc. will be available for purchase. The ladies will also be selling tacos in a bag and hot dogs for sale at lunchtime. Others are welcome to set up and sell their items around the church. The fee for others to set up is $10. Relay "Dancing for a Cure" Zumba at YMCA May 6
A Zumba Benefit, in support of Relay for Life, will be held Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jackson Area YMCA - "Dancing for a Cure." 5th Annual Jackson Track 5K Night Run or Walk May 6
The 5th Annual Jackson Track 5K Night Run or Walk is set for Saturday, May 6 at the Jackson High School Track Complex (located on Vaughn Street next to Jackson Middle School). Check-in begins at 7 p.m.; race starts at 8 p.m. Cost is $10 for pre-school to high school ages and $20 for adults. Sideliners' 4th Annual Jim Humphreys Poker Run May 20
The 4th Annual Jim Humphreys Poker Run, sponsored by the Jackson Sideliners Club, is set for Saturday, May 20, at The Corner Pub, located at 201 Broadway St., Jackson. (Rain date will be Sunday, May 21.) Registration for the Poker Run will begin at 10:30 a.m.; ride leaves at 12 p.m. Fee is $15 per bike; $5 per passenger; payout to top three hands.
