The winners of the spaghetti eating contest in the Troop 57 Boy Scout Dinner and Auction were (front row, from the left): First place, Jim Jeffers; second place, Gage Hopkins; third place, Floyd Harris; fourth place, Boats West; and fifth place, Austin Write. A longtime tradition in Wellston was renewed Saturday, March 4, as the annual Boy Scout Troop 57 Spaghetti Auction and Dinner was held at the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Hall.
The event included both a live auction conducted by Dennis Case, as well as a Chinese auction. There were many interesting items on the selling block, including a White Mountain Ice Cream Freezer and several more modern era items as well. The proceeds from the dinner and auction support Troop 57, the Scouts and its activities.
As far as the annual eating competitions, the winner in the spaghetti eating contest was Jim Jeffers from the Liberty Township Fire Department. He ate. 4.40 lbs. Following him was second-place winner, Gage Hopkins; third-place finisher, Floyd Harris; fourth-place finisher, Boats West; and fifth-place finisher, Austin Write.
The winners in the women's apple pie-eating contest were: First place, Cynthia Frame; second place, Gracie Potter; third place, Kim Swartz; fourth place, Makala Grisby.
Both the men's and women's T-shirts from the eating contests were sold and all the money raised also went to help the Boy Scouts. Several scouts from Troop 57 were also on hand to help with desserts and drinks and overall everyone enjoyed the event and all the various activities.
