"Open Rail" Band to Perform at Liberty Christian Center June 9

Special singing by "Open Rail" is planned for Sunday, June 9 at the Liberty Christian Center beginning at 11 a.m. Band members include Don Titus (banjo), Roger "Pup" Harrison (guitar), John Cardwell (mandolin), Perry Cardwell (upright bass) and Brian Ison (guitar). They blend a mix of bluegrass, traditional, modern, gospel and original material. The center is located at 97 Center Street, Jackson. Everyone is welcome.

Relay Team Bob Bingo Set for June 14 at Memorial Building

The Relay for Life Team Bob Bingo is set for Friday, June 14 at the Jackson Memorial Building. Games start at 6:30 p.m. This is a "pick your own prize" Bingo. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Cost is $20 for 20 games; special game for $5. There will also be door prizes, a 50/50 raffle and concessions for sale. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.

First Presbyterian Church Plans Annual Rummage Sale

The First Presbyterian Church of Jackson (225 Church Street, next to apple water tower) will hold its Annual Rummage Sale Friday, June 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come and browse; something for everyone.

Vera Bradley Bingo for Thunder Chix Travel Softball

Vera Bradley Bingo will be held Thursday, June 13 at the Jackson Memorial Building. Games start at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30); 20 games for $20; special game, $5. All proceeds will benefit the Thunder Chix IOU Travel Softball Team.

Flag Day Services Set at Jackson Elks Lodge #466

Jackson Elks Lodge #466 will hold Flag Day Services Friday evening, June 14 at 6:30 p.m. The service will be held in Fidelity Hall, located behind the Elks Lodge, 315 East Main Street, Jackson. The guest speaker will be Wilbur McCormick who will talk on Jackson County's history of Morgan's Raid. All Elks Lodges throughout the United States will take time on this special day to honor the American Flag. A buffet will follow the ceremony.

Vega United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School

Vega United Methodist Church will hold Vacation Bible School June 17-21 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each evening in the church fellowship hall. "Come join in God's Backyard Bible Camp under the sun," a spokesman invites, "for Bible lessons, snacks, crafts, recreation and lots of fun for preschool kids through teens."

"Kingdom Rock" VBS at First Baptist Church/Jackson

First Baptist Church in Jackson will hold its annual Vacation Bible School June 17-21 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly. This year's theme is "Kingdom Rock: Where Kids Stand Strong for God." The program is open to all children ages 3 to senior high. Kids will learn God's word in fun and unforgettable ways, from Bible adventures to tournament games, learning about the one and only King. Call to Band, Choir Members for July 4th Community Band

Practices will be on Mondays, June 17 & June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Jackson, with a final rehearsal on Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m. at the Christ Methodist Church in Jackson. The Choir is also practicing on Sundays, June 9, 16 & 23 at the Presbyterian Church. All of these rehearsals are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with the performance at the Christ Methodist Church on Sunday, July 7 at 6 p.m.

DT&I Railroad Retirees to Meet at KFC in Oak Hill

The next DT&I Railroad Dinner will be held Saturday, June 22 at 5 p.m. at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Oak Hill. Retirees and their families are invited to attend.

Oak Hill Community Evangelical/Nazarene VBS & Cookout Planned

The Oak Hill Community Evangelical and Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene will be sponsoring a community cook-out Saturday, June 8 at Central Park in Oak Hill beginning at 4 p.m. The community is invited to attend. There will be Pine Wood Derby races with the cars the children will be making at Vacation Bible School called "Custom Built Garage VBS," June 5-7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene, 200 Zane Oak Road, Oak Hill. Singing in the park will be provided by Erica Danver, Nick Wolford, and Jon Hensler beginning at 5 p.m. Please bring a lawn chair and settle back for a relaxing evening in Central Park. The events are free but donations of non-perishable foods and money will be accepted to benefit the Growing Oaks Program. Jackson Co. Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society to Meet

The Jackson County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet Saturday, June 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jackson City Library on Broadway, in the Potter Room. Following a short business meeting, Mark Morton of Gravestone Guardians will meet with the group. If weather permits, the group will go to James Cemetery for a demonstration.

Traveling Tea Ladies to Hold Civil War Dance Class Workshop

A free workshop, "Civil War Dance Class," will be sponsored by the Traveling Tea Ladies of Wellston. The workshop will be held at Wagon Wheelers Hall, 354 Summit Street, Jackson Ohio on Saturday, June 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Miss Rosebud will call the dance so everyone can step back in time to the 1860's and dance the night away like during the Civil War era. It is a great way to learn even if you have two left feet like me; so grab your partner and let's dose-doe the night away. Jackson First Church of the Nazarene's "Switch" Open House Set

Switch, a new ministry of Jackson First Church of the Nazarene, is having an open house Sunday, June 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. Switch is located at 161 East Main Street across from Sport-About. There will be free hot dogs and drinks along with prize drawings and information about the new ministry.

Pork Tenderoin Dinner at American Legion Jefferson Howe Post 81

On Thursday, June 13, the American Legion Jefferson Howe Post 81 and the Ladies' Auxiliary will hold their monthly dinner from 4 to 6 p.m. at 185 Morton Street, and the public is welcome. Cost is $7 per person, for eat-in or carry-out meals. Menu includes sliced pork tenderloin smothered in gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, tossed salad, roll with butter, coffee and dessert.

Disposal of Old or Unusable Flags Set at American Legion Post 81

Flag Day is Friday, June 14 and the American Legion Jefferson Howe Post 81 will dispose of all old or unusable flags. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend and/or bring in old flags. During this activity the Ladies' Auxiliary will offer a light lunch for a small fee. The menu will include beans and cornbread, hot dogs with suace, cookies and brownies.

Jackson Lake Campground Plans Fathers Day Special & Carnival

Jackson Lake Campground will be holding two special events during the month of June. The first will be a Fathers Day Special on June 14 & 15, two nights for the price of one. With your reservation you are also invited to a free cook-out and music provided by DJ Tony Gaither. On June 22, a carnival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for children ages 0-12. Children of campers are admitted free and the public will be charged $5 per child; an adult must accompany a child. There will be games, prizes, balloons, popcorn and loads of fun.
