It was a big day at Lake Alma State Park Saturday as the 14th Annual Lake Alma Beach Party unfolded on Saturday, August 7.

The event was hosted by Assistant State Park Manager Sandy Brickey and her staff. There were many highlights in the daylong event, including a Queen, Little Miss Sand Castle and Jr. Miss contests, boat rides by Captain Butch Anderson, great food and music, baby contest, dog show, a fishing tournament and other activities.

On the stage, the following girls were named to lead the Lake Alma Royalty Court: Little Miss Sand Castle Skylar Hatfield; Little Miss Lake Alma Ashtyn Johnson; Junior Miss Kyra Mullins.

There were also winners in other contests such as the Crazy Sand Castle Building Contest. Quentin Boggs and Jamie Stabler finished first and second, respectively, in the: Individual Crazy Sand Castle contest while the team contest was won by Dominic Holsinger, Elyssa Holsinger, Reba Russell and Joyce Jenkins. The second-place finish in the team building contest went to Taylor Boggs and Gabby Jacobs. There was also a 10-team 3-3 basketball tournament. (See results on the sports page).

Several dignitaries attended the event as well including: State Senator John Carey, Acting Chief of Ohio State Park system John Hunter, Vinton County Sheriff Dave Hickey, State Senatorial Candidate Dave Daniels and Regional Park Manager Randy Zeisler.

The musical groups which performed included: The For the Cause gospel group and Chip Allman and the Bottom of the Barrel Band. There was also a Karaoke contest later in the evening as well.

Of course, there was a great deal of the swimming and food vending service available. A special moment of the day came when a group of men dressed as women collected money for new playground equipment with the top money-raiser later being named "Queen for a Day". Also, the world-famous Smokey The Bear was on the scene as well.

Brickey and the Lake Hope Staff wished to thank everyone who attended and participated in the 14th Annual Lake Alma Beach Party.
