Welcome to the Online edition of the Telegram -- winner of over 50 awards from the Ohio Newspaper Association, including "Best Website" in 2008, 2010 and 2013.
If you're not familiar with newspaper web sites, this guide will help you learn about what we offer, how you can find local stories and information, and detail many of the special interactive features available here at www.theTelegramNews.com
First and foremost, everything you'll see here is absolutely free. We don't require a subscription to our online edition, we don't pry for personal information as a condition of using the site, and we don't require passwords, secret codes, or place any other stumbling block between you and all our information.
If you'd like to purchase a subscription to our print edition - a great value, by the way - you can do that online with a valid credit card. We also offer online classified ads FREE, and all our paid print edition classifieds are automatically added to our online edition at no extra charge. We'll discuss more of our value-added services later.
Navigation is how a customer moves from one section of the web site to the next. There are several ways to get around. The dark blue bar at the top of the page contains quick links to our most frequented web pages. Simply click and go.
On the upper left side of your screen, you'll find the Navigation area. Clicking on the appropriate text will take you to that section of the web site.
In some cases, you'll get a drop down menu that lists sub-sections under a main heading. For example, if you want Local News, you'd click Local News and go to an index page of headlines. If you want to see information about the Telegram staff, go to that section and when you "mouse over" the Telegram Staff text, you'll automatically bring up sub-sections (like News Department, Advertising, etc.) to further clarify your search.
The Navigation areas appear on every page on our website and all the sections are in the same order to make your searches easier.
If you want to return to the home page at any time, click on the Masthead (the Telegram logo at the top of every page) and you'll be taken back to the home page.
TODAY'S TOP STORIES
We add new stories to theTelegramNews.com every day. On the home page, you'll see the headlines for our latest news, sports, community, and Vinton County stories. You can click the individual title and go directly to the story, or you can visit the Navigation areas and click on a specific section. Then you'll get an index screen showing you all the headlines in that section.
You'll occasionally find stories and "extra" information in our online edition that isn't published in our print edition due to space restrictions, and some information routinely included in our newspaper will not be available on our website.
The home page contains an "Archive" search feature, allowing the reader to research our database of online stories. Simply type in a key word and click the "search" button.
An "advanced search" feature is also available to narrow down searches where too much data is returned on the initial search. Click on the words "advanced search" and a self-explanatory search form will appear.
Searches are limited to information posted as stories or obituaries on the website and does not necessarily include every story in our print edition. Back issues of our newspaper are available in limited quantities at the newspaper office. Call (740) 286-3604 for more information.
Remember, our online database is growing every week. As our website grows, all of the stories that once appeared in the headlines are automatically filed in our electronic archives. We hope this feature will grow to become an extremely useful tool for our online readers.
As a footnote, we'd like to encourage you to support our online advertisers. A number of progressive local businesses have underwritten our efforts to produce a top quality local news website, and we truly appreciate their support. Without these advertisers, this website would not be a reality.
Please visit the website ads and check out the products and/or services these local businesses have to offer. As a courtesy, let these businesses know you saw their ad on theTelegramNews.com
If you have specific questions about the operation of this web site, contact Website Manager Rick Callebs at email@example.com. We'll be happy to answer any questions you may have, and add those solutions to this page to assist other website users!
