Business was brisk as the new Dollar General Store in Hamden opened its doors for business last Thursday morning, Nov. 2. Store Manager Michelle Tribby told The Telegram the store opened at 9 a.m. with a "soft opening", but she says a grand-opening event will be held later.
Dollar General is the first national chain to open in the village and the store is located on State Route 93 on the north side of the village. The building was mostly constructed on an open lot with the exception of the demolition of a small garage.
Tribby, a Wellston native, has been managing the Dollar General Store at Piketon for more than two years. She explained the store is full of everyday items people need and in a bright, clean and attractive location. The new store, she stated, will also keep people from driving out of the county for many basic items. She pointed out the store has seven employees and the daily hours will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The new store is the third one the Tennessee-based retailer operates in Vinton County. Dollar General operates a store in Allensville and a Dollar General Plus store in McArthur. Overall, the corporation owns more than 14,000 stores across the USA and is expanding at a fast pace.
