9/8/2017 3:50:00 PM Vinton County Air Show set for Sept. 17
The Vinton County Air Show, sponsored by the Vinton County Pilots and Boosters Association, is rapidly approaching and final plans are being made for the Sunday, Sept. 17 event. If weather cooperates and aerobatic pilots can get to the airport, it is possible that as many as five big airplanes will perform as well as a great variety of RC performances including some new pilots and aircraft. At least one medical helicopter will be on display and crews at Ohio University are working out a mechanical issue so they can fly the airport's DC 3 to the Vinton County Airport during the afternoon.
There can be a new aerobatic pilot or two as well.
The chicken for the airport's famous BBQ chicken dinners has been ordered with each dinner to cost $10 which will include one half a chicken as well as generous servings of baked beans and potato salad and a roll. Soft drinks will be available at the airport's kitchen or from vendors in attendance. Dinners will be served beginning at 11 a.m. and the air show will begin at 1 p.m.
An FAA Safety Seminar for pilots will be held in the terminal at 10 a.m. Fly in and take part in this once a year training opportunity.
Attendance at the air show is free, but a $10 donation for parking will be requested per vehicle. Fill your car with family and friends and drive to the airport which is about five miles north of McArthur off St. Rt. 93 on Airport Road. Signs are posted and plenty of parking is available.
Airplane rides will be offered following the show at a cost of $30 per seat. Just prior to the end of the show, a candy drop for the kids will be offered. For some, this is the highlight of the show.
All proceeds from airport events are used to operate and maintain the Vinton County Airport.
