6/13/2018 4:32:00 AM Patrol investigating a serious injury crash in Vinton County
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday, June 10 at approximately 4:50 p.m. on State Route 689 near Wilkesville.
According to reports, a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck that was being driven northbound on State Route 689 by 56-year-old Randy Barney of Wilkesville, failed to negotiate a curve going off the right side of the road. His vehicle struck some trees then rolled over onto its right side.
The Wilkesville Fire Department and Vinton County EMS responded to the scene. Barney was flown to Grant Hospital in Columbus by MedFlight helicopter with serious incapacitating injuries. His safety belt was not in use at the time of the crash. No charges have been issued at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
State Route 689 remained open to traffic while the scene was being evaluated and cleaned up by on-scene personnel.
