With Commissioner Jerry Hall in the last year of his current term and with no intentions of seeking re-election, the proverbial torch has been passed as Commissioner Paul Haller will now serve as President of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in 2018.
Though he was not present for the first meeting of 2018, held Tuesday morning, Jan. 9, Haller was nominated for the position by Hall, who has served in that capacity for the past several years. Additionally, Hall nominated Commissioner Ed Armstrong to serve as the board's vice president. This will be Haller's first run in the board's top spot.

Tuesday's meeting also saw Jackson County Apiary Inspector Chris Lovett being approved to continue on in that role.
Commissioner Haller was chosen to serve as the county's official County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) representative, with Commissioner Armstrong being the alternate.
Joe Kirby, Erik Massie and Barbara Summers were all appointed to three-year terms on the Jackson County Airport Authority.
The next meeting of the Jackson County Commissioners will be held Thursday, Jan. 18 at 8:30 a.m. at the Jackson County Courthouse Annex on Portsmouth Street.
