OAK HILL - The Oak Hill Lady Oaks hosted the South Point Lady Pointers in semifinal action of Division III sectional tournament Tuesday afternoon and came out on the short end of a 5-2 final score at Oak Hill High School.
Both pitchers would go the distance for their respective teams. Holly Ramey limited Oak Hill to five hits while striking out seven Lady Oaks and walked just one.
In suffering the loss, Kailey Adkins gave up eight hits while striking out four and walking three.
Both pitchers sailed through the first three innings with Ramey allowing baserunners in the first two innings on a free pass and an error while Adkins limited South Point to two baserunners on a walk and a base hit.
The Lady Pointers, however, scored first, pushing two runs across in the top of the fourth, as Sara Allen had a two-run single.
Oak Hill countered with a single run in the bottom of the inning when a ball hit by Caitlyn Brisker was misplayed by the right fielder, allowing the fleet-footed shortstop to make it all the way to third. Two batters later, Adkins singled to drive her in for a run.
South Point answered with a run in the next frame as Conley doubled in a run to make it 3-1.
The Lady Pointers extended their lead to 5-1 in the next inning on a two-run single by Jill Aylsworth.
Oak Hill got a runner aboard in the fifth inning when Baleigh McNerlin reached on a one-out single but was left stranded.
Brisker reached on an error leading off the sixth, but Ramey got the next three hitters on fly ball outs.
Oak Hill attempted to mount a rally in the bottom seventh when Tamia Burnett and Tamron McCain reached on back-to-back singles. Then McNerlin popped out in foul territory and Brisker went down swinging to end the game.
Oak Hill finished their season with a 13-13 record while South Point improves to 5-12.
