An Oak Hill man accused of rape and a series of other major charges is the defendant in a jury trial now underway in Jackson County Common Pleas Court before Judge Christopher Regan.
The trial of Shawn W. Blackburn, 52, of 2422 State Route 233, Oak Hill, began Thursday, May 10 with the jury-selection process and was completed by the end of the day. The opening statements of the attorneys and actual testimony will begin Monday, May 14 with the court allocating two full weeks for the remainder of the trial.
Blackburn's trial involves an indictment filed in February 2017. He is charged with one count of rape with a sexual predator specification, one count of gross sexual imposition, two counts of kidnapping, one count of obstructing justice, and one count of obstructing official business. The charges stem from Blackburn's alleged crimes involving a single female victim.
The state is being represented by Angie Canepa of the Ohio Attorney General's Office and Blackburn is being represented by public defenders Justin Skaggs and Gene Meadows.
