Investigators are seeking the public's assistance in the investigation of a house fire which occurred last Saturday afternoon in Wellston.

At 3:14 p.m. Saturday, the Wellston Fire Department was dispatched to a house on fire at 237 South Wisconsin Ave. in Wellston. The fire was extinguished and the house was searched and cleared of occupants by 3:35 p.m. Although the house sustained moderate damage, there were no injuries to occupants or firefighters.

The Wellston Fire Department was assisted on the fire scene by the Coalton Fire Department, the Hamden Fire Department, the Jackson Fire Department, the Bloomfield Township Fire Department, Jackson County EMS, and the Wellston Police Department.

According to the Wellston Fire Department, the cause of this fire is still under investigation. The State Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted to assist with the investigation. Anyone with information about the fire, or anyone that was in the area around the time of the fire that may have seen anything pertinent to the investigation, should call Detective Robinson at the Wellston Police Department at 740-384-2171.

Investigators are specifically seeking information related to a small, dark gray car (possibly a Hyundai Elantra) that was witnessed in the area around the time of the fire.
